Ready for an exciting new adventure??

Hive Christian Academy is looking to recruit new teachers. Hive is an international Christian academy located in Erbil, Kurdistan, Northern Iraq. Hive exists to serve the international Christian worker community by providing quality educational opportunities for their families.

Hive Christian Academy is piloting a new model of education - the Hive Model - which is a ‘hybrid-in-five’ approach to learning. Teachers will have three primary teaching days a week (Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday.) The remaining two days a week will be optional for families to use as at-home learning days or extra days on site with independent work and experiential learning opportunities.

For the next three years, Hive will offer multi-level classes, adding age groups each year until graduating our first class in 2027.

We are regularly looking to fill teaching positions. We are looking for teachers who:

  • have a committed relationship with Jesus Christ

  • can commit to a 40-hour work week with 4-5 anticipated classroom hours (40 minute classes) a day

  • are excited about a flexible new opportunity with room for growth

  • are willing to commit to a healthy local church

  • have either multiple years experience teaching elementary or have a recent education degree with demonstrated teaching experience (student teaching and internships included)

The details of the job are as follows:

  • Contract will run from August-July (unless starting mid-year)

  • Teachers will be expected to be on site 40 hours a week

  • Salary will be dependent on experience (please email for more info!)

  • Hive will provide one (1) 1-way ticket to Erbil for hired teachers

I’m sure you have questions . . .

But is Erbil a safe place to live?

Yes! There are many families and single men and women who call Erbil home and have for many years. Though we live in a fragile region, and Hive will have contingency plans in place for any teachers hired should we need to leave the region, Erbil both feels and is a safe place to live.

How will I settle in a new city?

We are excited to introduce you to your new city! You will have a place to stay with one of our team members until you are able to secure living arrangements. We will help you navigate the residency process and secure your residency card (Hive will also cover the costs of this process.) We will also provide a few days of orientation to living in Erbil specifically, and cross-culturally generally.

Will I need to learn another language?

Erbil is a highly international city, and thankfully, you can get around with only English. If you do want to study a language in preparation (or once you arrive), you could choose between Arabic and Sorani Kurdish.

What kind of community can I find?

There is a healthy international church in Erbil that we would strongly encourage you to join. There are also many other expats with lots of opportunities to get involved in the community including sporting activities, art activities, and more!

Can I bring my spouse and/or family?

Yes! That’s why Hive is starting - there is a large number of international families here who need educational opportunities, and so we are hoping to help create that. Your family would be more than welcome to join.

What will my position really look like?

We are looking for teachers who will help us support the families that are already living here. We have seen too many families leave the field because there were not sufficient opportunities for their children. You will be responsible for teaching Bible, history, science, and language arts in your classroom. You will also be managing math tutorial - because of the essence of multi-level learning, we will not be teaching one math class to all students, but rather guiding students in independent math learning. You will have the opportunity to make a big impact on the lives of the children in your classroom, their family, and by that you will be adorning the work of the Gospel in this region.

What curriculum will I be teaching?

We are still finalizing our curriculum choices for next year, but we are choosing material that is Gospel-centered, created for multi-level learning, holistic, and cyclical. The whole school will be following the same curriculum with differentiated learning applications and assignments. This will help to foster a whole-school community of learning.

How is my position funded?

Hive is working towards a fully tuition funded model, but for the first few years we will fundraise before each school year to help cover fund salaries and other expenses. While you are not completely responsible for raising your own salary, we would love for you to partner with us as we fundraise our first years’ budget.

That did not answer all of your questions, so if you are still interested in learning more and submitting an application and resume, please email us at
info@hcaerbil.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
